Acquires Restaurants from Long-term Franchisee…..
In late July, franchisor Arby’s Restaurant Group Inc. acquired and assumed management of all 26 Arby’s restaurants from long-standing franchisee, Trefz & Trefz Inc., the Augusta, Georgia-based franchisee. The acquisition includes eight restaurants in the Augusta, Georgia market, ten units in the Charlotte, North Carolina market and eight restaurants in the Columbia, South Carolina market. More than 600 former Trefz employees transitioned to Arby’s Restaurant Group employment as part of the transaction. Over the course of more than 45 years, brothers Oren and Paul Trefz have successfully opened numerous Arby’s restaurants in three states across the Southeast United States. Announcement of the transaction comes on the heels of Arby’s second quarter 2015 sales announcement in which it reported significant system same-store sales growth of 7.6 percent versus the same quarter last year. Comparable two-year system sales are up 13.8 percent for the quarter. The company remains on track with its goal to surpass $4-billion in system-wide total sales by the end of 2018. Arby’s has also accelerated its new restaurant development and system remodels with the ‘Inspire’ restaurant design. Through the first two quarters of the year, the brand has opened 18 new restaurants and completed 53 remodels system-wide. On average, Arby’s remodeled restaurants are experiencing sustained sales increases of approximately 15 percent with some experiencing increases of 20 percent or more. Arby’s is scheduled to open 60 new restaurants and complete more than 160 remodels system-wide through the end of the year. Introduced in 1964, Arby’s is reported to be the first nationally franchised sandwich restaurant brand and currently has more than 3300 restaurants worldwide featuring its ‘Fast Crafted’ unique blend of quick-serve speed combined with the quality and made-for-you care of fast casual.
