Charlie Graingers World Famous Hot Dogs has launched its Southeast expansion with the signing of franchise agreements for new restaurants in North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi. During the first ten months of its franchising program, thw Wilmington, North Carolina-based chain has secured commitments for 126 new locations. The company is planning to open 40 Charlie Graingers World Famous Hot Dogs locations in 2016. Charlie Graingers plans to continue its expansion in the Southeast through 2016 and begin to grow into the neighboring states in 2016 and 2017. The company continues to actively recruit area representatives, multi-unit operators and individual store-owners alike. In the early 1940s, musician Charlie Grainger and his wife Anne opened the Peacock Alley restaurant in downtown Wilmington. In the 1980s Grainger retired. In 2012, Louis North acquired the site of the original Peacock Alley restaurant with the intensions of re-building the restaurant in the Classic Americana style, reviving the hot dog tradition along with his own additions to the menu introducing his famous beef brisket, pork bbq, and chicken salad which accompany the homemade soups and sides. The flagship restaurant is at 702 South 17th St. in Wilmington and units are planned for various markets in North and South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, West Virginia, Louisiana and Mississippi. “We believe Charlie Graingers will be the next great restaurant brand and we look forward to expanding our brand nationwide over the next few years,” says CEO Jason Nista. The concept will operate in various formats. The Charlie Grangers Express at about 750 square feet is a flexible concept designed for convenience and gas bar applications, airports, malls, etc. The traditional restaurant model has limited seating and will operate in a 750 to 1500 square foot range. Charlie Graingers has retained East Carolinas Commercial Real Estate to handle its real estate requirements.
