Restaurant & QSR Expansion Report

Chick-fil-A Goes Big in Manhattan……

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A is opening a flagship location later this Summer in Manhattan.  The quick service chicken menu chain will open a 5000 square foot, three level restaurant at 1000 Sixth Ave. at West 37th St. The restaurant will have seating for about 80 guests. Presently there is a food court-style Chick-fil-A location in the New York University campus food hall.  "We are beyond excited about opening our first franchise restaurant in New York,” said Vice President, Public Relations Carrie Kurlander. “Until now, the only place you could enjoy our food was on the campus of NYU. We are ready to fire up the grills and serve our chicken, hot waffle fries and fresh lemonade to the Herald Square neighborhood.  This location will allow us to serve fans who have been asking us to come to New York and to earn the opportunity to serve new customers, as it will be the first of many locations in the city." Introduced in 1967, Chick-fil-A is a privately owned chain of more than 1850 locations in about 41 states and Washington DC and sales in excess of $5-billion.  The chain has opened over 15 new locations since the beginning of the year including restaurants in Jacksonville and Palm Coast in Florida just last week. More openings are scheduled for Delray Beach in Florida and Washington, Pennsylvania before the end of March. Aggressive growth is underway and the franchise chain has identified the Northeast region as well as Southeast Florida and Georgia are East Coast growth areas over the next two years.  Chick-fil-A operates in several formats including food court and in-line units in malls, stand alone restaurants, drive-thru-only locations as well as non-traditional licensed locations in hospitals, universities, airports, etc…..
