According to the New York Post, men’s suit retailer Brooks Brothers is planning to launch a large steakhouse concept on East 44th St., around the corner from the Brooks Brothers flagship store at 346 Madison Ave. in New York.  Call Makers & Merchants, the full service restaurant will occupy the 15,000 square foot three level that Brooks Brothers took over from J. Press in 2008 and used for several years for its women’s line. Plans reportedly call for a Summer 2014 launch. The unit would serve as the prototype for a branded steakhouse line across the United States.  Owned by the Enfield, Connecticut-based Retail Brand Alliance, Brooks Brothers operates about 300 stores worldwide.
