In 2012, Tom Ferguson, owner of the then twelve year old Durham Catering Company, introduced a new quick service restaurant concept called Rise Biscuits & Donuts in Durham in North Carolina. The breakfast/lunch concept combines large flaky biscuits served with a choice of toppings and as a daily sandwich special along with a selection of flavored fresh donuts. Ferguson is now planning to expand the concept through franchising and has joined with franchise development company Fransmart to grow the banner. He explains that the plan is to start in North Carolina and expand outward from there targeting multi-unit franchises in the Southeast region. “We don’t have any projections as of now,” he says, “just high hopes.” Open from 7:00 am to about 2:00 pm daily, the units will operate in 1000 to 1500 square foot street, plaza and open center sites.
