In January, the United States Healthful Food Council announced that Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe’ has become the first national franchise to achieve REAL Certification, the emerging national standard for foodservice nutrition and sustainability. With 40 locations across eleven states, Taziki’s is also the largest chain restaurant to complete the certification process. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the quick casual Taziki’s provides healthful food made fresh and inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, incorporating scratch cooking, healthy oils and healthier preparation methods, as well as ‘better for you’ children meals. The menu offers freshly grilled meats, a variety of vegetarian entrees, healthy side dishes and does not include any deep-fried items. “It is an honor to be the first national restaurant franchise to complete the REAL Certification process and be recognized for our focus on health and sustainability,” said Taziki’s CEO Jim Keet. The franchise chain is under development on new restaurants in the former Dumplin’s of Franklin location on Main St. in Franklin, Tennessee, at the new Middletown Commons in Louisville, Kentucky and at the new South Highland Village project on Line Ave. at Pierremont Rd. in Shreveport, Louisiana. REAL Certified dining establishments can now be found in over 20 states ranging from quick-serve restaurants through fine-dining, as well as corporate dining facilities and institutional foodservice operations.
