Year’s Expansion Starts in Florida

In early March, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc. is opening its latest restaurant in the greater Orlando area.  The location is on Rinehart Rd. in the Sanford area. The specialty hamburger restaurants feature more than two dozen innovative gourmet burgers served with ‘Bottomless Steak Fries’ and more than 100 different toppings for guests to customize their favorite burger. The menu also includes a variety of salads, entrees, soups and wraps made with the freshest ingredients, many of which are made in-house. Presently there are over 490 Red Robin casual restaurants across the United States and Canada. With this latest addition, the chain counts 14 restaurants in Florida.  Two others, on Forest Hill Blvd. in Wellington and in Broward Mall in Plantation, are scheduled to open soon. In mid-February, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers reported that its annual revenues for the year ending in late December exceeded $1.0-billion and its fiscal year 2013 comparable sales grew four percent. For its fourth quarter, revenues were $241.9-million, an increase of 0.5 percent and comparable sales were up 3.7 percent compared to its previous fourth quarter. As of the end of the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2013, there were 355 company-owned Red Robinrestaurants, six Red Robin’s Burger Works and 134 franchised Red Robin restaurants.  In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2013, the company opened ten new Red Robin restaurants and relocated one as well as opened one Red Robin’s Burger Works. During the full year 2013, the company opened 21 new Red Robin restaurants and relocated two as well as opened one Red Robin’s Burger Works. Franchisees opened two and closed one Red Robin restaurant during 2013.  In fiscal year 2014, the company expects comparable restaurant sales growth in the low single digits.  In addition, there are plans to open 20 new Red Robin restaurants and five Red Robin’s Burger Works. Plans are underway to remodel 50 Red Robin restaurants as part of its brand transformation initiative.
