Aggressive Growth to Double Size

In early April, Denver, Colorado-based Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill opened its 30th location in the United States. The unit opened in Phoenix, its second in Arizona.  The quick casual chain of healthy and authentic Mediterranean cuisine now operates units in ten states including Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maryland and New Jersey on the East Coast and based on planned openings, it expects to double in size by the end of 2014. Late in 2013, a Florida-based franchisee, Garboca Group, opened the chain’s first location in that state at the Garden Shops in Boca Raton. The Garboca Group also holds the right to develop up to 20 locations in the South Florida area and is now sourcing sites in the Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Later this year, Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill is opening restaurants in the Lake Success community in northwest Long Island and in the Bronx in New York City. Both franchised and corporate-owned restaurants are targeted for the East Coast region and units in the 2000 to 2500 square foot range are suitable for the 70-seat restaurants.  Patios are also preferred.  In mid-April, the company announced that industry veteran Ralph Decker has joined the senior leadership team as Director of Field Services.
