Eat, Drink, Be Happy and Grow

Since 1990, the Bar Louie chain of neighborhood bar/restaurants has operated under the ‘Eat-Drink-Be Happy’ policy. This approach has served the Addison, Texas-based chain well, having experienced a 50 percent growth in corporate locations since 2011.  Presently there are over 75 restaurants operating and by the end of 2013, the company expects that growth to increase to over 70 percent.  In late September, a 5800 square foot Bar Louie restaurant/bar opened in the Marriott Residence Inn in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood.  Six more openings are taking place in October including a 9000 square foot location in Rochester, New York, a 7000 square foot unit in Ashburn and a 6400 square foot restaurant in Gainesville, both in Virginia and an 8000 square foot location in Charlotte in North Carolina.  In November, a 6000 square foot unit is scheduled to open in Arlington, Virginia.  The chain is also active outside of the East Coast region with opening this month in Arlington, Texas and an 11,000 square foot Bar Louie franchise in Minnetonka in Minnesota.  The chain’s menu includes a full menu of steak, seafood and chicken offerings along with ‘small plate’ servings, burgers, sandwiches, flatbreads, etc.  Handcrafted cocktails, wines and local and regional beers on tap are also served in the urban atmosphere to attract the affluent 25 to 44 year old audience.  The chain is expanding at a rate of ten to 15 corporate restaurants and 20 franchise locations per year with the plan of reaching over 100 corporate and more than 100 franchised units in the coming years. Senior Vice President, Development Chris Devlin is responsible for the franchising and real estate selection.
