In mid-April, franchise restaurant Hurricane Grill & Wings reported that Derek Kirk has joined the brand’s executive team as Chief Marketing Officer. In this new position he will work collaboratively with Hurricane Grill & Wings’ franchise community and executive team to produce compelling and effective national programs and campaigns as well as provide support and direction for interactive, loyalty and local marketing. A restaurant industry veteran with more than 15 years of marketing experience, he most recently served as President of Bella Marketing Consulting. Prior to that, he was interim Vice President of Marketing for Smokey Bones and Vice President of Marketing for Chevys Fresh Mex. West Palm Beach, Florida-based Hurricane Grill & Wings includes about 58 locations in seven states featuring jumbo, fresh wings, more than 35 signature sauces and rubs and tropical, laid-back vibe. Then, just days later, the company announced that it has signed five multi-unit development agreements, representing 22 new locations. The Florida-based brand opened two locations, in Lindenhurst, New York and in Cape Coral, Florida, in early 2014, with plans for a total of 14 new units in Florida, Minnesota, Texas, Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Arizona, Virginia and Tennessee by the end of the year. The development agreements include a five unit agreement with Ronit’s Inc. in the Richmond, Virginia area, a five unit agreement in Central Orlando, Florida with Central Florida Wings LLC, a three unit agreement for the North Orlando, Florida market with Tamarind Investments, LLC, a three unit agreement with JD Food & Grill LLC for the Dallas, Texas area and a six unit agreement in the Maricopa County in Arizona with an existing franchisee, Franchise Partners LLC.
