Restaurant & QSR Expansion Report

Penn Station Makes Atlanta Debut

In mid-June, business partners Joe Quatro and Neil Viljoen opened a quick-casual Penn Station East Coast Subs restaurant at the Village at Druid Hills, an open center at Briarcliff Rd. NE and N. Druid Hills Rd. in Atlanta, Georgia.  It is the partners’ first opening of a five unit agreement recently signed with the Milford, Ohio-based chain. It is also the chain’s first in the state. Four more Penn Station restaurants are to open in the area within three years.  The 31-year old chain presently has approximately 270 restaurants in 13 states, most in the South and Midwest regions and al but one location are franchised. Projections call for the opening of 30 restaurants nationwide in 2014. Markets targeted for growth include Kansas City, Richmond, Chicago, Detroit, Nashville and North and South Carolina, as well as a number of other existing markets. The upscale concept features a variety of freshly grilled sandwiches as well as hand-cut, made-to-order fries, fresh, hand-squeezed lemonade and cookies made on site. It targets markets of at least 50,000 people in a market with strong daytime and residential traffic. Highly visible end cap units in the 1600 to 1800 square foot range are preferred.
