Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group will be opening its first Shake Shack in Baltimore, Maryland in early 2015. The street front unit will be prominently located in the city’s picturesque Inner Harbor at 400 East Pratt St. across from the National Aquarium. “The Baltimore Shack will also have outdoor seating to take in the views of the harbor while enjoying a ShackBurger, fresh-cut fries and hand-spun shake,” said Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti. Originating as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in the early 2000s, Shake Shack has evolved into a chain of quick casual ‘roadside-style’ burger concept with 46 locations operating of which 25 are in the United States. Greg Waters, the company’s Senior Marketing & Communications Manager, declined to identify other openings planned for 2015 but he did note that at least twelve locations are scheduled to open in the United States in 2014 with about nine being in the East Coast region. The openings include restaurants in Brooklyn, Manhattan and a second in the JFK Airport in New York, at Union Station in Washington, DC, in Paramus in New Jersey, Tyson’s Corners in Virginia, Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia and in Winter Park in Orlando, Florida. The modern day ‘roadside’ burger stand concept is known for its 100 percent all-natural Angus beef burgers, flat-top dogs, fresh-made frozen custard, craft beer and wine, etc. Designed as a casual and lively community gathering place with widespread appeal, the chain has developed a strong following around the world.
