After completing the acquisition of the CherryBerry and Yogli Mogli yogurt café concepts in January, in late February, Henderson, Nevada-based U-Swirl Inc. reported that its subsidiary, U-SWIRL International has acquired the business assets of Fuzzy Peach Franchising, LLC., a Wilmington, North Carolina-based self-serve frozen yogurt chain with 17 Fuzzy Peach Frozen Yogurt locations presently operating in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. "The completion of this acquisition increases the size of U-Swirl's store base by six percent, to a total of 286 units in 38 states," noted Ulderico Conte, CEO of U-Swirl, Inc. "This acquisition provides us with increased exposure in the southeastern U.S., where we aim to increase our presence and operating efficiencies.” He pointed out that the self-serve frozen yogurt market is extremely fragmented and he feels that consolidation is necessary for the future success of the industry. U-Swirl intends to play a role in this process as it continues with its aggressive acquisition and growth programs. In addition to the recent acquisitions of frozen yogurt chains, U-Swirl is planning new store openings by franchisees under the U-Swirl, CherryBerry and Fuzzy Peach brands. Currently there are about 32 locations in various stages of development and the company expects to add 15 to 25 openings under current brands in the next 12 to 18 months. Then in March, U-Swirl announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Moxie Consumer Products, LLC, which was created for the purpose of selling beverages, toppings, and other consumer products, has acquired the business assets of Moxie USA, LLC. Moxie USA LLC is a Henderson, Nevada-based company is currently distributing beverage and gummies products in 15 states. The acquisition of all intellectual property and worldwide license rights includes the rights associated with national, regional, and local distributors that are currently purchasing beverage and candy products. Rob Chang has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of Moxie Consumer Products.
