In early August, Carrols Restaurant Group Inc. completed the acquisition of five Burger King restaurants in South Carolina. Four of the restaurants are located in Rock Hill and one is located in Fort Mill. A publically traded company, Carrols Restaurant Group has operated Burger King restaurants since 1976. It is the largest Burger King franchisee in the United States with over 660 units. For its second quarter 2015 which ended in late June, Carrols Restaurant Group reported that restaurant sales increased 30.0 percent to $219.1-million from $168.6-million in the second quarter of 2014, which included $38.8-million in sales from 127 Burger King restaurants that were acquired in 2014 and 2015. In addition, comparable restaurant sales increased 10.3 percent compared to a 2.0 percent decrease in the prior year period.
